"Befreien Sie Afrika!" ist ein Film über den deutschen "Mythos Afrika" – ein Film über das Bild Afrikas in Deutschland + die Rolle Deutschlands in Afrika. 500 Ausschnitte aus Spielfilmen, Reportagen, Dokumentationen, Comics, Werbespots, Musikvideos + Computerspielen illustrieren – unkommentiert - das deutsche Afrikabild vom Zweiten Weltkrieg bis heute, darunter bisher unveröffentlichtes Material aus ost- + west-deutschen Archiven. Eine filmische Collage über deutsche Militärpolitik in Afrika + über die Wechselwirkung von Politik + Populärmythen. Der Titel des Films wurde einer Spielanleitung zu dem Gesellschaftsspiel "Risiko" entlehnt, das früher "Erobere die Welt" hieß.

"Free Africa!" deals with both the image of Africa in Germany and Germany's role in Africa. It's also a film about the German myth of Africa. 500 excerpts from movies, reports, documentaries, comic strips, commercials, music videos etc. illustrate the German image of Africa over the last 50 years, including material from East und West German archives that has never been shown before. It's a densely woven, fast paced collage about German military policy in Africa and the interaction between politics and popular myths. The film's title "Free Africa!" [Befreien Sie Afrika!] is found in the instructions to the globally popular boardgame "Risk".
